Research Paper: Employee Recognition Through Corporate Gifting in the Healthcare Industry

Healthcare professionals face a high risk of burnout due to demanding work environments. Workplace interventions, especially those involving organizational support, can help reduce this risk. Employee recognition is one such approach, yet it remains unclear whether gifting specifically offers these same benefits. This paper reviews existing literature on recognition, well-being, and burnout to address this gap. Findings suggest that meaningful recognition, including through gifts, may support well-being when perceived as genuine and personalized. Burnout, however, appears to be driven more by organizational support than by recognition alone. Corporate gifting should not be positioned as a direct treatment for burnout. Instead, it may contribute meaningfully as part of a broader recognition and well-being strategy.
